Porridge in five minutes, without a pot and without a hob. For Protein Porridge you pour 200 ml of boiling water over one sachet, stir once and let it soak with a lid on. A kettle is all you need, and the washing-up stops at one bowl.

What you get is around 260 g of porridge with 31 g of protein at 215 kcal, plus 4.3 g of fibre from glucomannan, psyllium husk and soluble maize fibre. The wholegrain oat flakes are declared as gluten-free quality, there is no added sugar (contains naturally occurring sugars), and compared with conventional porridge sweetened with sugar it holds 65 % fewer carbohydrates. No spare minute in the morning? Mix the sachet cold the night before and take it to the office as an overnight bowl.

Ingredients & allergens

Ingredients: milk protein concentrate 55 %, wholegrain oat flakes (gluten-free quality) 39 %, glucomannan (from konjac root) 2 %, psyllium husk powder, soluble fibre (maize), salt, lactase, sweetener (steviol glycosides from stevia).

Allergens: contains milk and oats.

The wholegrain oat flakes are declared as gluten-free quality — Protein Porridge is therefore gluten-free. It contains lactase, an enzyme that breaks down lactose, which usually makes it easier to digest — but it is not lactose-free, because the base is milk protein concentrate. No added sugar; contains naturally occurring sugars. The label on the sachet is always authoritative.

Glucomannan in the context of an energy-restricted diet contributes to weight loss. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of glucomannan in three doses of 1 g each, together with 1–2 glasses of water, before meals and in the context of an energy-restricted diet.

Glucomannan contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 4 g of glucomannan.

Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass. Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass.

Preparation & use

Preparation — ready in 5 minutes, no cooking:

  1. Empty one sachet (62 g) into a bowl.
  2. Add 200 ml of boiling water — a kettle is enough, you do not need a pot.
  3. Stir with a whisk until smooth.
  4. Cover and let it soak for 5 minutes.
  5. Done — one prepared serving comes to roughly 260 g.

Cold variant: stir the sachet with 200 ml of cold water or a plant drink the evening before and leave it in the fridge overnight. A plant drink instead of water changes the stated nutritional values.

Sweeter & more flavourful: stir in about 2 g of Chunky Flavour (roughly three quarters of a scoop) — this changes the stated nutritional values.

Drink alongside: have 1–2 glasses of water with your meal. The glucomannan from konjac root swells with liquid, and 1–2 glasses of water are also part of the official conditions of use for glucomannan.

What is Protein Porridge?

Protein Porridge is a high protein porridge — protein oatmeal, if you prefer the American word — in a single-serve sachet. 62 g of powder, 200 ml of boiling water, five minutes of soaking: that is the entire recipe. One serving provides 31 g of protein at 215 kcal and only 16 g of carbohydrates, which puts the protein-to-carb ratio at 2:1. Behind that sits a mix of 55 % milk protein concentrate and 39 % wholegrain oat flakes in gluten-free quality. Ordinary porridge is a carbohydrate meal — this one turns the ratio around, and you never have to stir protein powder into your oats to get there.

Why you will love Protein Porridge

  • 31 g of protein per serving — high protein content at 215 kcal per 62 g sachet.
  • Gluten-free — the wholegrain oat flakes are declared as gluten-free quality; the only one of our three protein meals for which that applies.
  • Source of fibre — 4.3 g of fibre per serving from glucomannan, psyllium husk powder and soluble corn fibre.
  • 65 % fewer carbohydrates — compared with conventional porridge sweetened with sugar and made without sweeteners.
  • No added sugar — 2.0 g of sugar per serving, sweetened with steviol glycosides from stevia; contains naturally occurring sugars.
  • Five minutes, no pan — a kettle is all it takes, at the office just as much as in a hotel room.

How to prepare Protein Porridge

Tip 62 g — exactly one sachet — into a bowl, pour 200 ml of boiling water over it, whisk briskly so no lumps remain and let it soak covered for five minutes. That gives you roughly 260 g of finished porridge. No pan and no stove are involved, which is why a kettle carries the whole thing anywhere. Prefer it cold? Stir the powder with the same amount of liquid in the evening and leave it in the fridge overnight — the overnight version is expressly intended. A plant-based drink works instead of water as well; keep in mind that every extra liquid and every topping changes the nutrition values shown on the pack. For more flavour, stir in a little flavour powder from the Chunky Flavour range.

Protein Porridge vs. conventional porridge

Conventional porridge is essentially oat flakes: carbohydrates dominate, protein arrives at best through the milk, and a spoonful of honey or sugar usually joins in. Here the oat share is reduced in favour of milk protein — 31 g of protein stand against 16 g of carbohydrates, which is around 65 % fewer carbohydrates than conventional porridge sweetened with sugar and made without sweeteners. There is no added sugar at all; the 2.0 g of sugar per serving occur naturally. The German Nutrition Society recommends keeping free sugars below 10 % of daily energy intake — a breakfast that barely touches that limit makes it easier. Mixing something similar yourself is of course possible, it just costs you weighing, washing-up and a bit of arithmetic.

Quality & ingredients

Ingredients: milk protein concentrate 55 %, wholegrain oat flakes (gluten-free) 39 %, glucomannan from the konjac root 2 %, psyllium husk powder, soluble fibre (maize), salt, lactase, sweetener (steviol glycosides from stevia). The product contains milk protein — it is not suitable with a milk protein allergy and it is not vegan. The enzyme lactase breaks down the milk sugar it contains, which usually makes the porridge easy to digest; that does not make it lactose-free. One serving contains 1.0 g of glucomannan. Glucomannan contributes to weight loss in the context of an energy-restricted diet. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of glucomannan in three doses of 1 g each, together with 1–2 glasses of water, before meals and in the context of an energy-restricted diet. The labelling on the packaging is always the binding source.
